A Study of Suicides of Hospitalized Psychiatric Patients

Abstract

One case of suicidal attempt (37 years old, female, single) during long term psychotherapy with hospitalization was experienced by author who is Korean doctor working in the U.S.A.
General psychodynamic theories and dynamics of doctor-patient relationship of suicidal attempt during therapy were reviewed. And, the dynamics of relationship between author and above mentioned patient was analysed.
Feeling of rejection of patient from family, co-workers, and etc, were most significant elements of this patient. The counter-hostility and rejecting behavior of therapist. just before the attempt were important factors inducing suicidal attempt.
Feeling of unstability of foreign doctor arised from the situation working in the U.S.A. was additional problem which must be overcomed.
